On the occasion of the completion of 70 years of climbing the Makalu Himal, the Makalu Rural Municipality has organized the Makalu Mahotsav from Wednesday.

In the program held in Noom of Makaluu rural municipality, the caste tableau of Sankhuwasabha has been displayed. The tableau circled the various locations of Noom . Member of Language Commission Dr. Puskardeb Bhatt, former Minister of Koshi Province and Member of Parliament of Sankhuvasabha Rajend Karki and President of Makalu Wangdi Sherpa inaugurated the festival by lighting a lamp in Panas.

Makaluu, the fifth highest mountain in the world, is 8,463 meters high. Village Chairman Sherpa said that it has been 70 years since humans stepped on the peak of Makaluu Mountain. He said that on May 15, 1955, Jin Cozi and Leonor Terry from the climbing team named 'France Spring 1055' led by Jean Franco reached the summit of Makalu for the first time .

He said that the climbing of the Makalu Himal was successful exactly two years after reaching the highest peak Everest. On the occasion of the Makalu Festival, the South Asian Literary and Cultural Conference has also been inaugurated . The festival and conference, which started on Wednesday, will continue till February 17.
