Khumbu Pasanglhamu rural municipality has started collecting entry fee from passengers coming by vehicle. The municipality has started collecting a service fee of Rs 50 per person and Rs 10 per quintal for goods from passengers entering the tourist area Khumbu.

There is a village police post in Kharikhola, Ward 1, which is the road entrance of the village where the highest peak is Everest. The winter meeting of the rural municipality held on December 20 decided to collect entry fee from the passengers for road maintenance and improvement. Within a few weeks of that, the fee has been collected . "The municipality has started collecting fees by creating an economic law," said Lakpachiri Sherpa, spokesperson of the village executive. According to

spokesperson Sherpa, upon entering Kharikhola in Khumbu area, the vehicle owner will have to pay all the passenger fees at the village police post in one lump sum if the passenger does not pay personally. There has also been criticism after they started collecting service fees from passengers for road maintenance. Ward president and other stakeholders have opposed the move of the municipality. Chairman of Ward 1 Phunuru Sherpa commented that it is wrong for the municipality to collect fees from passengers. Koshi state assembly member Gombu Sherpa said that it is not possible to collect tolls from passengers as private companies have built roads on roads built with state investment.

Rural municipality has been collecting tourism fee at the rate of 2000 rupees from foreign tourists entering Khumbu area. There are only 25 kilometers of road across Khumbu Pasanglhamu municipality. Vehicles are operating only from Ward 1 Kharikhola to Surke. This road has been constructed recently with the investment of Silk Power Pvt Ltd, the promoter company of the rural municipality and Luklapari hydropower project under construction.
