A woman has died after being attacked by a wild elephant in Deepjyoti Community Forest located in Tarawari-7, Kachankawal Rural Municipality of Jhapa. Local 34-year-old Kelawatti Rajvanshi was among the deceased.

On Wednesday, Rajwanshi, who was in a group of 15-20 women who had gone to the forest area to cut firewood and grass, was chased by a wild elephant. After the locals reported to the local police office Baniani, the team led by police sub-inspector Rohit Magar found him seriously injured during the search.

The injured Rajwanshi was taken to Om Sai Pathibhara Hospital Bhadrapur for immediate treatment and was referred to Mechi Provincial Hospital Bhadrapur for further treatment.

The incident site is about 9 km west-north from the local police office Baniyani. The police said that further investigation of the incident is underway.
