Sunsari police have seized about 700 kg of ganja from a vehicle with two government number plates. Sub-Inspector Suman Kumar Timsina informed that the team of the local police office Dharan fired four rounds of fire to take control of the vehicle.
Although the police seized two vehicles with marijuana, only one of the drivers was arrested. Timsina informed that the police opened fire on Tuesday night when they stopped and checked a car with official number plates Ba 1 Jh 4605 and Ba 1 Jh 5127, which were carrying marijuana from Dhankuta to Dharan under the Koshi highway.
The driver of Ba 1 Jh 4605, 36-year-old Shyam Kumar Bishwakarma of Sundarharaincha Municipality-11 of Morang, was arrested, but the other driver left the vehicle and ran away. When checking both vehicles, 700 kilos of marijuana were recovered and District Police Office Sunsari said that the rear part of vehicle number 5127 was damaged due to police firing.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ram Prasad Timalsina, Spokesperson of the District Police Office, Sunsari, said that an investigation is being carried out regarding whether the vehicles taken under control are official or not. Earlier, Sunsari police have seized large quantities of marijuana from ambulances, tankers transporting petroleum products and vehicles with Indian number plates.
Dharan Police Deputy Superintendent Prakash Jabegu informed that the gangs involved in the transportation and business of narcotic marijuana have started adopting new methods for its smuggling.
