Poet Asmita Bista has emerged in the field of Nepali poetry through the poetry collection 'Songs in the Black Hole'. Her figurative poems have established her as a distinct specialty.
A total of 45 fragmentary prose poems contain diverse references to life. The specialty of poet Bista's poetry is to delve into any topic and present it in a short and formulaic manner through figurative language. Especially in this collection, the loving expressions of youth have come out very strongly.
The poet has also presented the bitter experiences of contemporary life by decorating them with words. The poem titled 'Your Arrival' expresses the enthusiasm, enthusiasm, and vigor that arises in nature and human minds on the arrival of Holi, the great festival of Nepalis. The poem depicts the festival of colors, Holi, and the culture of the Terai in a very simple, lively and charming way.
Lover couples like me wish for your closeness
The touch of theirs
That touches
The rapid beating of the heart
Bursts the jar of love
And pours the butter of ecstasy
In every corner of the body .
(p. 11)
In the poem 'On the Thread of Memory', through the image of waiting for love, the desire for long-lasting happiness and the desire for a happy future that people have experienced for ages in the longing for the happiness of living are revealed . The poet has beautifully presented how a human being is forced to live alone in the wait for love for his existence . With a look of wonder
You trample the feet of the pilot
I decorate my lips with the words of your song
I watch your dear moon
I cover myself with an umbrella
The rain that makes you shiver
In your absence
I live for your existence .
(p. 14)
The poem 'We are in the rain of love' depicts the artistic joy of the heart in the peak of love, while the fourth poem 'WhatsApp' reveals the helplessness of modern humans who have forgotten the sacrifice and dedication of the ancient civilization . The difference between the current human civilization and the civilization of the past is presented in the absence of that glorious sacrifice and sacrifice. After ages,
On the anniversary of the beginning of human civilization,
Covered with a shell of beauty,
– Like empty shells of shiny chips,
– Like colorful plastic bottles,
– Like smelly foils packed with stale food,
They came carrying a letter of request and blocked your consciousness,
– As a friend request on Facebook's wall,
– As a good morning message on WhatsApp,
And you,
– Wrapped in the web they wove,
– You kept diving into the enchantment pool they dug,
– You kept sinking into the abyss they made, endlessly,
(p. 18)
The poems 'Bains Phuleko Saanj', 'Neer Mayaharu', focus on the expression of various forms of love, while the poem 'Carpet Flower' focuses on the revenge of love and hatred. and focuses on addressing the person who gives the insult. The poem 'Birds of Youth' depicts the energy, desires and dreams of the youth. This poem respects the labor, struggle and role of the youth in nation building. The poem 'You who are caught in the line of destiny' poignantly presents the collective anguish and internal conflict of the male class, who have been exploited and victimized socially, economically or psychologically for years. The poem exposes the reality that the patriarchal structure has pushed not only women, but also men into a deep abyss of mental and social pressure. It challenges the traditional thinking that men are always harsh, powerful and emotionless and presents a new human perspective towards men.
The poet tries to convey the message that 'men' and 'patriarchy' are not the same thing, but rather different structures and identities. The poet has presented the context in which the series of wars also began from the series of male exploitation in this way-
Thousands of years ago
With a sharp weapon like the tip of a reed in the heart
Diving into the hot water of blood
Men who looked like you
Standing on the peak of their ego
Writings and songs
Composed war and music
And began
The series of your exploitation .
(p.28)
In his poems, there are memories of the happy moments of childhood in life, while in most poems there is an expression of the eternal desires and aspirations of youth . To enjoy his poetry, the reader must be able to understand some complex intellectual images and symbols . There may be a lack of a pre-history series in the poem, but each of those lines of the poem carries the deep meaning of life . His poems embrace the constraints and pathos of life . Sometimes the beautiful forms of nature are artistically described in the poems, while sometimes the harshness of nature is also depicted . The impact of nature on human life and the direct human relationship with nature are depicted in the poems of poet Bista .
'Krishna of Kaliyuga' is another poem carrying an important message . Where the mythological character Krishna is constructed . This poem reveals the Nepali religious superstition of considering Krishna great and singing his praises but covering up his shortcomings .
Whether Krishna was herding cows in Vrindavan or visiting the homes of other villagers, the ugly side of sexual violence against young women of that time has been depicted in this poem . The villainous character of Krishna, who robs the existence of hundreds of young women and exploits women in the name of love, is shown in this poem.
Happiness also comes in different forms;
In different shapes,
Unaware of each other's existence,
Saying to many planets, "I am only your sun,"
Every second, minute, hour,
Every day, night and season,
To spin around oneself in a fun-filled way.
(p. 52)
In the poems of poet Bista, there is not a gross presentation of the subject matter, but only a subtle expression. Since the poem attempts to convey very subtle aspects, it is very difficult for the average reader to determine which field these subjects are related to. Looking at the structural form of the poem, his poems seem like experimental compositions of meaning and non-meaning, but none of his poems have that experimental difficulty. Some poems have exposed the subject in a very easy and simple way, while the presentation of some poems is found to be abstract. In abstract poetry, the reader gets the opportunity to write on meaning and whatever meaning he gives, it ends up being defined in that meaning. Many of Asmita's poems have imbibed that abstractness. The poem 'Bagn Deu' presents not only the continuity of human civilization, but also the context of the continuity of creation. The melting of water, blood, hail, snow, etc. through the action of melting, for the continuity of this creation, it must be allowed to melt. If any object is allowed to melt, it freezes and after freezing, its mobility ends. This has been presented in a very profound way. If the river stops flowing, if the woman's menstruation stops, then this creation will not continue but end, so melting is the religion of creation, so melting is also the religion of women. The idea that there is life, creation and mobility in that melting is presented in this poem.
Every month, blood stopped flowing from the vagina,
The rays from the sun and the coolness from the moon did not flow, The wind of affection in the mother's heart,
The rush of compassion in the father's brain,
The flame of love in the loving heart stopped flowing,
The creation will stop flowing,
Life will end,
Love will fade away in the womb.

The desire for a beautiful future for this country is expressed in Bista's poems. We have become helpless today by forgetting the history of our brave ancestors. We must rekindle the flame of revolution. We must end the chaos and extremism in the country. This country needs a capable leadership. A good guide is needed. Now is the time to decide to do something for this country ourselves, as expressed in the poem 'We must create another history'.
The arrogance and luxurious life of the cruel rulers of any country are also depicted in Asmita's poems. Those who rule freely do not realize that they are naked. His surroundings keep on praising him for how much this dress suits him, but only when a child says that the king is naked, does the king realize that his henchmen are lying. Therefore, the slave mentality of the society that strips kings naked and sees divinity in their naked form has been depicted in a very beautiful way.
I hope that Bista's future poems will be more weighty, objective, effective, and will come with not only the pain and suffering of the country and its people, but also the determination to build the country.
