The Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has maintained its previous stance by deciding to vote in favor of the no-confidence motion registered against Chief Minister Yam Lal Kandel.
Chief Whip Krishna Bahadur Jisi said that the NCP parliamentary party meeting held on Thursday morning decided to vote in favor of the no-confidence motion. “The party had already registered a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Kandel, stating it had no confidence in him,” he said. “Now we have concluded that we will not back down.”
After the agreement on power-sharing between UML and NCP at the center, there had been speculation that the political equation in Karnali could also change, but the NCP’s decision indicates that there will be no immediate change in the power equation in the province. Last Thursday, members of the Provincial Assembly from the Nepali Congress and NCP jointly registered a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Kandel.
The proposal has put forward Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Jeevan Bahadur Shahi as the candidate for chief minister. The discussion and voting on the no-confidence motion in the Provincial Assembly will now determine the fate of the Karnali government.
