The process of constructing concrete bridges in the Bheri Corridor, where road connectivity is disrupted by the Bhel river with the onset of the rainy season, has now begun. The Bheri Corridor Project Office has invited bids for the construction of bridges at 13 different locations on the 118-kilometer-long Jajarkot-Dolpa road section. According to the

project, bridges will be constructed on major rivers and streams in Jajarkot, Rukum West and Dolpa. Among the bridges for which contracts have been invited, bridges will be constructed on Khahare River in Jajarkot, Chisapani, Ghattekhola, Rijigad, Usum Khola and Manaka Khola in Rukum West, and Karabgad, Chugad, Galligad, Rupgad, Khar Khola in Dolpa and the Bheri River in Tripurakot. Similarly, a concrete bridge will also be constructed on the Thulibheri River near the power house of the Jairigad Hydropower Project on the Dunai-Kaike road section.

Bheri Corridor Project Chief Naresh Prasad Keshari said that the process has been taken forward after the necessary budget sources for the construction of the bridge were ensured. According to him, bridges will now be constructed gradually over the rivulets, which have become the biggest obstacle in the operation of the road.

Even after years of completion of the road track construction from Jajarkot to Dunai, the district headquarters of Dolpa, the corridor has not been fully utilized due to the lack of bridges. Especially during the rainy season, vehicle operations have been stopped due to the increase in the flow of the river, and passengers have been forced to cross the river at their own risk.

Dolpa, which was connected to the national road network in 2075 BS, has still not been able to experience smooth road transport. Along with the lack of bridges, the incomplete construction of the Dho-Tinje-Marim road connecting Upper Dolpa and the delay seen in the Dunai-Lasikyap road section have added challenges to the upgrading of the corridor.

According to Chief District Officer Junu Hamal Dhakal, the start of the construction of the concrete bridge is an important achievement for the corridor. She said that once the bridge is built, the traffic problem during the rainy season, which has been recurring for years, is expected to be permanently eliminated.

The Bheri Corridor is considered a strategic road linked to the development of Dolpa and potential trilateral trade. With the construction of the bridge, government efforts to make the corridor operable throughout the year have gained momentum.
