Nine houses here are at high risk of landslides due to the foundation dug by the Khandachakra Municipality using a dozer for the construction of an administrative building. After a landslide occurred in Falgun last year while digging soil for the construction of the municipal building, which was contracted a year and a half ago, the road leading to Manma Bazaar collapsed completely after a dozer dug soil and a wall was built at an additional cost of Rs 2 million, but this year, landslides have started again.

Locals have complained that the Serapata area of Manma Bazaar is at risk because the construction contractor is not working at the speed required by the contract for the construction of the municipality's 7-storey multi-purpose administrative building. 'The wall that was previously installed has collapsed,' said local Karna Prasad Chaulagain, 'and the houses on the road are also at risk.' He said that the risk has increased because the contractor has been slow in the work. 'The contract was signed two years ago. It's over,' he said, 'Even a year after the work started, the work has not picked up speed.'

The houses of Karna Prasad Chaulagain, Lal Prasad Pokharel, Bhanubhakta Acharya, Bhawani Prasad Acharya, Kali Bahadur Shahi, Gangaram Acharya, Harka Bahadur Shahi, Ramkant Acharya and others above the project site are at high risk of landslides. Residents of those houses do not stay at home at night due to fear of landslides. Kalikot Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Ratan Bahadur Shahi said that local traders have suffered as the road to Manma Bazaar has also been closed due to the man-made disaster.

District Disaster Management Committee Coordinator and Chief District Officer Gokarna Raj Suyal said that the municipality should act quickly to reduce the damage as some houses are at risk when the municipality digs the foundation of the building.

Khandachakra Municipality has signed a contract by taking the land of the then District Development Committee in its name. The municipality had signed a contract agreement with MSR & CS of Kathmandu for Rs. 196.265.932 including VAT in 2081 Poush. The contract period will end on 24 Ashar 084. The municipality has stated that the contractor has received Rs. 15 million as payment.
