All three security agencies have been mobilized to expedite relief and rescue operations in the flood that hit Jagadulla Rural Municipality-5, Gairi Gaon, in the Himalayan district of Dolpa on Sunday morning.
Chief District Officer Junu Hamal Dhakal said that the police, Armed Police Force and the army have been mobilized in the district. According to her, the deployed security personnel are collecting more details and conducting rescue operations.
'A meeting of the district security personnel is being held. The local municipality has stated that it will distribute relief itself. Discussions have been held on the distribution of relief and rehabilitation work in coordination with the municipality,' she said.
A woman who was sleeping at home died in the flood and six people were injured.
The deceased is 56-year-old Anandi Bik, according to the District Police Office, Dolpa. Bik, who was sleeping at home, was injured after falling into the flood. She was rescued and taken to a health post for treatment, but she died on the way, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Anilraj Giri. The injured in the flood are Chauri BK, 50, Reuli BK, 44, Bishnu BK, 48, Niruta BK, 15, Sita BK, 13, and Jas BK, 65.
They are being treated at the Jhyakot health post. Among the injured, Reuli BK is in a serious condition with injuries to his lower body, so locals have discussed whether to take him to Kathmandu or Jumla by helicopter for further treatment.
According to the police, the flood has so far damaged 10 houses. Initial reports indicate that cooperative buildings, food warehouses, individual houses, shops, and hotels have also been damaged. One house was completely destroyed and other houses have sustained varying degrees of damage.
All three security agencies in the district have been mobilized to intensify relief and rescue operations after the incident. Teams of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force have been deployed to the affected areas in coordination with the District Administration Office. The work of collecting detailed details of the damage is ongoing. DSP Giri said that a Nepal Police team led by a police inspector was sent to the incident site on Sunday morning to collect more details and conduct an on-site study of the incident.
