Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha inaugurated the office and residential building and bailey bridge of the 106 MW Jagadulla Semi-Reservoir Hydropower Project in Jagadulla Rural Municipality of Dolpa on Thursday.
During a program organized in Kaigaun of Jagadulla Rural Municipality on Thursday, he inaugurated the office and residential building constructed by Jagadulla Hydropower Company Limited along with the bailey bridge leading to the project.
Along with this, he laid the foundation stone for the blasting work of the tunnel from the dam site to the power house. Minister Shrestha initially inspected the infrastructure including the building structure and bailey bridge built in the eel in Mudkechula Rural Municipality.
Minister Shrestha said that the hydropower sector can become the main basis for the economic progress and prosperity of Dolpa. Stating that economic development would accelerate if the abundant water resources in the district could be utilized, he said that hydropower projects are not limited to electricity generation alone, but are also a means of creating employment, developing infrastructure and making the local economy dynamic.
Stating that the construction of large energy projects in remote Himalayan districts has further highlighted the potential for development, he pledged that the government would provide necessary facilitation to complete the Jagadulla project on time.
The company has stated that the bund bridges and roads constructed on the access route of the project have made a significant contribution to the expansion of the road network within and outside the district.
Chief Executive Officer of the project, Sanjay Sapkota, said that the road constructed as an access route under the project and the seven bund bridges constructed on this route have facilitated the movement of locals and have also supported the road expansion campaign in the district.
According to him, with the construction of the project, employment opportunities have increased at the local level, while commercial and economic activities are also expanding. The 106 MW Jagadulla Project is one of the largest hydroelectric projects in Dolpa.
