The vehicle that fell into the Karnali River from Chamundabindrasaini Municipality-7, Sangetada (Chisapani) in Dailekh has not been found even after 10 hours.
The Karnali Province-02-001 Kha 1055 Force vehicle, which was going from Birendranagar in Surkhet to Raskot in Kalikot, fell into the Karnali River at around 11:30 am on Thursday. The Karnali Province Police Office has stated that it is not yet certain how many people were on board the vehicle that left Surkhet Bus Park carrying 5 passengers. The police have stated that the rescue operation has been difficult due to the rising water level in the river and the vehicle sinking. According to the office, one person died at the scene while all the other passengers are missing.
Although the body of one person stuck in the cliff was recovered, his identity could not be established, said Provincial Police Spokesperson SSP Santosh Singh Rathore. According to him, the vehicle in the accident belongs to Bulbule Yatayat Pvt. Ltd. "The vehicle went out of control and fell into the Karnali River about 400 meters below. The cause of the accident is not clear," he said. "It was also learned that some passengers boarded the road, but it is not certain how many passengers there were. The water level in the river is rising. The water is murky, making it difficult to rescue the vehicle." According to him, a team of divers from the Maheshwor Brigade of the Armed Police Force has also been mobilized to the scene.
Provincial Police Chief DIG Jayaraj Sapkota, who was at the scene, said that due to the difficult terrain and the vehicle submerged in the river, rescue efforts could not be carried out for about 10 hours after the accident. "There is a big cliff above and the Karnali River below. Rescue teams have been deployed in all directions," he said, "but we could not see the vehicle." According to him, about 100 police officers have been deployed from the Provincial Police Office, District Police and surrounding police units for the rescue. Similarly, the Armed Police Force, Upper Karnali Hydropower Project Security Base, and others have also been mobilized to the scene.
He informed that after the rescue operation was not successful till late Thursday evening, a team of divers will be mobilized to the spot from Friday morning. The place where the vehicle sank is about three kilometers north of the Paltada police station.
