Kalikot has been declared the third fully immunized and sustainable district in Karnali Province. The district was declared on Sunday after all 9 local levels here were declared fully immunized and sustainable by Jestha.
The district was declared the third fully immunized district in Karnali Province with the slogan of "Using local resources, ownership and participation, ensuring full immunization is our commitment," said District Vaccination Coordination Committee Member Secretary and Health Service Manager Dr. Ratnabir Sunar.
The district was declared after ensuring that children under 5 years of age received 11 vaccines, including 9 for children from birth to 5 years of age, 1 for pregnant women and 1 for adolescents. He informed that the contribution of Kalikot's female health volunteers, health workers and the local level to save children's lives in vaccination has enabled the district to be declared fully immunized.
Although children under 15 months of age should have been vaccinated as per the vaccination schedule to protect them from various diseases, there is a provision to declare children aged 16 to 59 months who have been missed for any reason as fully vaccinated after completing all the vaccination doses through the local health department and vaccination campaign, said Katak Bahadur Mahat, the vaccination focal person at the Health Service Office, Kalikot. He informed that the target is to vaccinate 3,636 children in Kalikot and said that all have been vaccinated.
Participating in the announcement, Om Prasad Poudel, Public Health Officer of the Karnali Province Vaccination Coordination Committee, congratulated Kalikot for registering as a fully vaccinated district after Dailekh and Surkhet and said that all stakeholders will play a role in creating an environment where no one will ever miss out on vaccination.
He informed that a vaccination campaign was conducted in the months of Magh, Falgun and Chait, and that the vaccination campaign was conducted in Baisakh as the month of vaccination. He informed that the schedule is to declare the province fully vaccinated by wards, municipalities, districts and then by vaccinating the missed children in Jestha. According to him, the province will be declared fully vaccinated by the end of Asard.
