The main opposition Nepali Communist Party (NCP) on Thursday disrupted the provincial assembly meeting, alleging serious shortcomings in the budget brought by the Karnali government for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84.
The opposition party NCP prevented the meeting from proceeding, alleging that the budget was aimless, unbalanced and not in line with people's expectations.
In the provincial assembly meeting, NCP parliamentary party leader Mangal Bahadur Shahi accused the government of ignoring the suggestions and disagreements of the opposition and trying to pass the budget on the pretext of majority.
He said that the tendency to move forward by pandering to the opposition parties is against democratic practice. 'Even wrong things are being tried to be passed on the strength of majority, this is unacceptable to the opposition,' Shahi said in the meeting, 'There is no clear priority in the budget, there is no objective in the selection of plans, and the basis for addressing the needs of the people is also weak.'
The opposition has demanded that the government correct the shortcomings by discussing the budget again. The provincial assembly meeting was affected for some time after the parliament was disrupted. The government, however, has stated that it is preparing to answer questions raised on the budget.
The Karnali government has brought a budget of 35 billion 398.5 million 48 thousand rupees for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84.
