The Karnali Province Convention of the National Independent Party (NISP) is starting in Birendranagar from Sunday. The NISP is going to hold its first convention of Karnali Province after completing all 10 district conventions through the municipality. 505 representatives will participate in the convention.

Provincial President Madan Bahadur Khadka said that all district office bearers, municipal presidents and representatives of the Genji group have arrived in Birendranagar to participate in the convention. According to him, although NISP President Ravi Lamichhane is expected to arrive to inaugurate the convention, it has not been confirmed as of Saturday evening. 'All preparations for the convention have been completed, but the chief guest has not been decided yet,' he said, 'Since it is the first convention, we have tried to make it historic.'

Five aspirants have been identified for the party's provincial president. Incumbent President Khadka, along with Vice President Prem Bahadur Bohara, Treasurer Sneha Upadhyay Nepal, former Rukum West President Man Bahadur Shahi and Nandakishore Basnet (NK) are aspirants. Among the aspirants, Khadka and Upadhyay are from Surkhet, Shahi and Bohara are from Rukum West and Basnet is from Dailekh.

Vice President Bohara was on the proportional list for the House of Representatives. He is an IQ trainer and has published more than a dozen books on Public Service Commission preparation. He is the director of Zenith Education Promotion. But Bohara, who is on Khas Arya's list, could not become an MP.

Shahi is an engineer by profession. He is the founding president of Rukum West's Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and is also the director of Nest Consultant Pvt. Ltd. He was a direct candidate for the House of Representatives from Rukum West. Shahi was defeated by the NCP candidate by getting 4,076 votes. During the Jajarkot earthquake, nearly 200 temporary shelters were built under his leadership in Rukum West and Jajarkot.

Basnet, who became a direct candidate in the House of Representatives election from Dailekh-1, was defeated by the Congress candidate by getting 8,151 votes. He has a business background and joined the Nepali Congress Party from the NCP-UML just a few days before the elections in Falgun.
