The District Hospital Salyan, which has been performing surgeries on pregnant women with complex problems for a decade, has resumed operations for patients with orthopedic, hernia, hydrocele, and appendix surgeries that were suspended due to the lack of specialist doctors.

After the arrival of MDGP specialist doctor Dr. Rahish Koju, the surgical services for orthopedic fractures, appendix, hernia, and hydrocele surgeries at the District Hospital Salyan, which were suspended for three years, have resumed operations. Along with this, the hospital has also continued the suspended mini-lap and permanent sterilization services.

With the provision of other facilities for pregnant women with complex problems, it has become easier for the residents of the district. District residents who were forced to go to Dang, Nepalgunj, Surkhet, and Kathmandu for simple surgeries will no longer have to go out. The residents of Rolpa and Rukum will also benefit from the resumption of the suspended surgical services.

Head of the Health Service Office, Salyan, Dr. Arjun Budha Magar said that four people, two with broken bones and two with appendicitis, have been operated on since the arrival of the specialist doctor. Five years ago, MDGP Dr. Pradeep Sharma had started the surgery service for broken bones, hernia, hydrocele, and appendix. The MDGP who came after him, Dr. Abhishek Singh, continued it.

‘The service was stopped since 2080 as other doctors who came after Singh were unable to operate the surgery service for hydrocele, hernia, appendix, and broken bones,’ he said. ‘Until last month, those who came for surgery were forced to be referred to Surkhet and Nepalgunj.’ Now that the stopped service has been resumed, they do not have to be sent outside. The surgeries that are done at a low cost have brought relief to the people of the district.’

While there are 10 doctors in the district hospital, another doctor and two technicians assisted Dr. He said that he has been helping Koju. Although there is no problem with the equipment required for surgery at the district hospital, if a patient needs blood immediately, donors will give it to them, but there is some problem due to the reluctance to give blood to keep the blood bank in stock. Dr. Budhamagar said. He said that the department is taking steps to ensure that the service is not stopped as the contract of Dr. Koju, who was recently transferred, expires in Ashar.

Although the initiative has been taken to expand the 15-bed hospital established in 2044 BS to 50 beds, it has not been possible so far. Sarina Tamang, the manager of the hospital, said that it has been providing various services to those who come for treatment with 40 beds. She said that 150 patients come to the hospital daily.
