The dispute over the Ranisain area on the border of Bajura and Humla has surfaced again .
After the locals of Bajura blocked the Dhulachaur road section under the Karnali Corridor over the disputed area, the citizens of Humla have launched a protest . On Friday afternoon, the locals of Humla reached the District Administration Office . They said that the road closure from Bajura is an injustice to Humla and demanded an immediate environment for road operation .
Since the Karnali Corridor is the main route connecting Humla to the national road network, the road blockade will directly affect the supply system and movement of the district, the locals say.
There has been a dispute over the ownership of the Ranisain area for a long time . Despite discussions and initiatives at various levels to resolve the dispute, tensions have recurred from time to time as no conclusion has been reached . The last time, the locals of Bajura blocked the Dhulachaur road section, saying that their demands regarding Ranisain were not addressed .
Dissatisfaction has increased towards Humla after the road was closed. Locals participating in the protest have said that the common people should not be inconvenienced by blocking the road in the name of the border dispute. They have drawn the attention of the government through the administration and demanded a permanent solution to the dispute.
The Ranisain dispute is one of the oldest inter-district border disputes in Karnali Province. Both districts have been claiming the area. Despite repeated attempts by the government mechanism to study and coordinate to resolve the dispute, no concrete conclusion has been reached yet.
