The Karnali provincial government has abolished 6 directorates and 3 training centers. The cabinet meeting held on Thursday decided to abolish 9 bodies to restructure the provincial government administratively. The government has abolished the Directorate of Infrastructure Development, the Directorate of Agriculture Development and the Directorate of Livestock Development. Similarly, the Directorate of Drinking Water, Irrigation and Energy Development, the Provincial Forest Directorate and the Directorate of Industry and Consumer Protection have also been abolished, said government spokesperson and Minister for Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives Binod Kumar Shah. According to him, the work being done by the directorates will now be done by the ministry and the district office. It has also been decided to abolish the Forest, Research and Training Center, the Agriculture and Livestock Business Promotion Training Center and the Human Resource Development Center from July 1. Spokesperson Shah said that arrangements have been made for the work to be done by all three centers to be done by the Karnali Provincial Training Institute. According to him, the decision to conduct an Organization and Management Survey (ONM) by the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers was also made in Thursday's cabinet meeting.
The Karnali government had formed a 4-member high-level committee under the coordination of former Secretary Laxman Aryal on Baisakh 5 last year for administrative restructuring. After studying for almost two months, the committee submitted a report to the government on Asad 5 last year with recommendations including reducing the number of ministries from 8 to 6, abolishing some directorates and offices, and reducing the number of employees from about 2,900 to 2,500.
The directorate was abolished based on the suggestions of the same committee. On Mangsir 1 last year, the Karnali government abolished the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law and merged it with the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers. After the merger of the ministries, 25 employee posts were cut and about Rs 30 million in administrative expenses were saved.
