A controversy has arisen over the counting of votes in the election held under the first district convention of the National Independent Party (NISP) in Dailekh. The disgruntled party has locked the party office, claiming irregularities in the vote results, and has demanded a fair investigation into the election process.

Prakash Kumar Budha, who is a candidate for the post of president at the convention, said that although the election committee had stated that a total of 240 votes were cast, the total number of votes received by the candidates for the post of president reached 246. According to him, the four candidates for the post of president had received 93, 69, 43 and 41 votes respectively.

‘It is not a matter of common error that the number of votes received by the candidates is higher than the total votes cast,’ Budha said, ‘This has raised serious questions about the vote counting process. The incident should be investigated impartially and all relevant evidence should be preserved.’

He said that the party office was locked because there was a fear that documents related to the vote counting and other evidence might be destroyed.
