Tilagufa Municipality has been declared fully vaccinated. After all children under the age of 5 received 13 vaccines since birth, the district was declared the fifth fully vaccinated and sustainable municipality in the district at a meeting held in Galje, the center of Tilagufa, on Monday.

There is a provision that children within 15 months of birth must have been vaccinated with 13 types of vaccines to protect them from various diseases. Dr. Ratnabir Sunar, Chief of the Health Service Office, Kalikot and Member Secretary of the District Vaccination Coordination Committee, said that there is a provision that children aged 16 to 59 months who have missed vaccination for some reason will be searched through the local health branch and declared fully vaccinated only after completing all the vaccines.

‘Vaccination is important to save the lives of children,’ he said. ‘Local-level vaccination centers have worked to vaccinate all children.’ He said that the activeness of health workers and the leadership of public representatives are important for complete vaccination.

After conducting a vaccination campaign in all 11 wards of Tilagufa and ensuring that all children were vaccinated, the municipality declared full vaccination as assured, said Mayor Shankar Prasad Upadhyay. ‘We have deployed health workers in remote settlements of the municipality and brought all children to the vaccine.’ He said, ‘We have also ensured that those who have gone out of the district have been vaccinated by informing their families.’

Deputy Mayor Mahendra Bahadur Shahi said that female health volunteers have been deployed to the homes of the children who were left behind in Tilagufa. Stating that vaccination is also necessary to save the lives of children and protect them from malnutrition, he said that the municipality has implemented the Golden Thousand Days program targeting mothers and children.’

The Health Service Office, which started a search and vaccination campaign across the district in Magh, Falgun and Chait last year, confirmed that all children had received the vaccine based on the monitoring of the District Vaccination Coordination Committee, and declared the local level here as a fully vaccinated municipality, said Katak Bahadur Mahat, Public Health Officer and District Vaccination Focal Person of the Health Service Office.

According to him, the district will be fully vaccinated by declaring Shubhakalika and Narharinath rural municipalities, which are yet to be declared, on Jestha 27, Khadachakra Municipality on Jestha 28 and Palata Rural Municipality on Jestha 29, and the district will be fully vaccinated within the first week of Asad.

Kaviraj Neupane, Head of the Health Branch, said that 414 children have been vaccinated this year in Tilagupha, where there are 4 acutely malnourished children. The target is to vaccinate 3,668 children across Kalikot district.

There is a provision to ensure that everyone receives the vaccine by conducting household surveys with the involvement of health workers, local political parties, public representatives, health institution management committees, ward vaccination coordination committees, women's health volunteers, mothers' groups, teachers, and representatives of organizations, with the support and monitoring of health workers. The local levels here have launched a campaign to identify children who have missed out on vaccination by going door to door.
