A fire broke out at a health post in Bagchaur Municipality-4, Pedikhola, on Monday afternoon, destroying all the equipment. The health service has been completely affected after all the equipment used in treatment was destroyed and the building was damaged.

The residents of the ward have been in trouble after the service was completely affected. Locals who have been receiving free services from the health post are forced to go to the medical center for general treatment, while pregnant women are forced to go to the primary health center in Tharmare, an hour and a half away, for pregnancy tests.

The health service had to be closed for a few days because the patient check-up room was not fit for living, the equipment and medicines used in treatment were destroyed by the fire, and there were no other options, said Tek Bahadur Rawat, head of the health post. He informed that pregnant women have been more troubled by the closure of the service and regular check-ups have been affected.

‘We have now started removing the burnt equipment from the building.’ After removing the materials, we will proceed with the cleaning of the rooms blackened by smoke and the repair process of the building damaged by the fire. If the municipality provides materials including medicines, we will bring the suspended service into operation as soon as possible without repairing the building,' he said.

The fire destroyed eight 12-volt batteries, three wooden drawers, two steel drawers, two stretchers, one inverter, two patient beds, four plastic chairs, and all the medicines and documents kept at the health post, causing a loss of more than 1.5 million. He said, 'The maternity home building was separate. That is all that survived.'

Although there was no damage from the fire, the maternity service was closed on Tuesday and Wednesday due to the lack of complete management of the necessary materials, said female health worker Kamala Kumari Oli. She informed that maternity services will be operational from Wednesday if the necessary materials are provided and lighting is arranged. She said that even though the service is closed, various types of advice have been given to pregnant women and those about to give birth.
