The second edition of the Karnali Daughters Conference has been organized in Birendranagar from Saturday. The organizer, Jyoti Foundation, has stated that the conference was organized with the aim of raising voice against social evils including gender discrimination against girls, adolescents and women, child marriage, Chhaupadi, domestic violence, sexual abuse and human trafficking. The
conference will run for two days on Saturday and Sunday. In which 2/2 girls from 79 local levels of Karnali will participate, while girls from the endangered Raute, Raji, Kusunda, Badi and Bote communities will also be present.
‘The conference will discuss issues such as gender and caste discrimination, violence against women, child marriage, domestic violence, decent menstruation and Chhaupadi,’ said Jyoti Katuwal, the president of the organization. ‘The issues raised in the conference will be presented as suggestions to the governments of all three levels.’
According to her, 85 girls from Karnali will present their life struggles in the program where about 250 girls will participate.
Experts will present working papers related to public policy making at the conference and various panel discussion sessions will also be held, she said. The foundation had held the first Karnali Girls Conference from Baisakh 27 to 29 last year.
