The road has been blocked as the dispute over the establishment of a temporary police post in Lampata, a border area between Humla and Bajura, escalated. Hundreds of passengers have been stranded in Dhulachaur area of Bajura since Wednesday as the road has been blocked.
Passengers returning home from cities like Kathmandu, Nepalgunj, and Surkhet are now stranded on the road. Among those stranded on the road are the sick, women, the elderly, children, and students returning from exams. 'I reached Surkhet yesterday,' said Roop Singh Sunar, a local of Humla, 'Food, water, and hotels have been closed for two days.' Dozens of vehicles have been stopped in Dhulachaur, Piluchaur, and Kawadi.
Hundreds of people going to Humla are stranded around Dhulachaur. Passengers are forced to spend the night under the open sky. Some said they had not been able to eat for two days. On Tuesday, there was a dispute between locals from Humla and Bajura over the construction of a temporary police post in Lampata. The dispute escalated into stone-pelting and clashes. Four people were injured in the incident. The main road connecting Humla has been blocked since then.
Birendra Singh said that shops doing business in the Dhulachaur area have also been closed. 'There have been demonstrations by burning tires on the road, movement has been completely disrupted,' he said. 'Even when passengers have been stranded on the road for two days, the government has not taken any steps. Due to the border dispute between the two districts, ordinary citizens have had to live on the roads.'
Bajura Chief District Officer Dorendra Niraula said that they are trying to reach an agreement to open the road as soon as possible.
