There are only two months left for the end of the current fiscal year 2082/083. The Karnali provincial government has spent only 29 percent of the budget so far. The government has spent only 29.03 percent of the total budget in the 10-month period. The development budget spent within the 10 months is in a critical condition. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning has spent Rs 97.8 million. The ministry had a total budget of Rs 201.3 million. The Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers has spent Rs 184.3 million, while the Provincial Public Service Commission has spent Rs 38.2 million. Similarly, the Provincial Planning Commission has spent Rs 20.3 million, said Lalit Thapa, Accounting Officer of the Provincial Controller's Office.
Last year (2081/082), the provincial government had spent 32.65 percent of the budget during this 10-month period. Every year, the Karnali provincial government is weak in budget expenditure. Ministry officials say that the development budget was directly affected this year due to the Genji movement, then the House of Representatives elections and the recent Iran war.
Now, provincial government officials are busy preparing the policies and programs and budget for the upcoming fiscal year (2083/084). Based on the savings in the current budget, the ceiling has been distributed to increase the size of the budget for the upcoming year.
