Proving the adage that age does not stop education, Ward Chairman Sudip KC of Darma Rural Municipality-5 in Salyan, who took the SEE exam at the age of 40, has passed with a GPA of 3.20. KC had taken the SEE exam last Chaitra from the Nepal National Secondary Examination Center in Darmakot.
The ward chairman is happy that his desire to study will be fulfilled after studying at home and passing with a GPA of 3.20. He has already prepared to study in the district and study in 11/12. KC became a ward member in 2074 and became the ward chairman in 2079. In 2062 BS, while studying in grade 10, he went to various places in India to earn money after taking the test exam, and he said that he was not able to take the SLC exam due to various family responsibilities. Now, 20 years after skipping his studies, he has taken the SEE exam.
He says, ‘At that time, young people were not very interested in studying. After reaching the age of 14, most of them went to different places in India to earn money. After passing the test, I went to Pauri Gadwal, India, with my friend. After working there for four years, I returned home in 2066.’
Rather than staying at home, I wanted to do something, so I immediately went to Malaysia for foreign employment. I spent four years there. I bought a JCV with the money I earned from Malaysia and ran it. I got caught up in various jobs thinking about how to earn money. ‘I didn’t pay attention to studying,’ he said.
After federalization, he entered politics and became a ward member in 2074. He was elected as the ward president in 2079. While working in the ward office and meeting various big names, I realized that I had to study, there was nothing like studying, and that studying was very necessary for doing politics. 'I took the SEE exam in class 10 in the ward's school. I succeeded the first time with my dedication and hard work,' he said.
Ward Chairman KC, who was elated after passing the SEE exam with good marks, informed that he is preparing to enroll in Plus Two by continuing his studies without affecting his work. 'It is difficult to go out as a ward chairman. I have to work for the people of the ward. That is why I am enrolling in Plus Two in a school in my own municipality,' he said, 'There is nothing greater than education. In recent times, there is no politics without education. That is why I have seen the need to study.'
