Police have arrested three people on charges of online gambling (betting) and suspicious financial transactions by misusing bank accounts.
According to the Babiyachaur Area Police Office, they were arrested after an investigation based on confidential and technical information revealed that online gambling was being conducted using social media and the internet.
Those arrested are Mahendra Kumar Bohara, 39, Yamlal BK, 42, and Dambar BK, 44, of Panchapuri Municipality-9. According to Mohan Jung Butthapa, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Surkhet, preliminary investigation has revealed that Bohara, who is involved in the teaching profession, opened six accounts in various banks and used them for online betting and fraud.
Police have said that suspicious transactions worth around Rs 24.6 million were made through his account. Similarly, businessman Yamlal BK operated five accounts in various banks and made suspicious transactions, and hotelier Dambar BK opened nine bank accounts and misused them, according to the police. Police say they are being taken into custody and are being investigated for banking crimes, gambling and money laundering.
