The roof of the four-room building of Laxmi Basic School in Malneta, Sharada Municipality-14, has been torn down due to the inability to repair it. The students of grades 1, 2 and 3 have been forced to study in the same room after the roof of the four-room building was blown away by the wind last week. The school's principal Resham Giri said that the roof could not be repaired, so the students of grades 1, 2 and 3 had to be taught in the same room. The school has a total of 42 students up to grade 8. He informed that it was difficult to conduct classes when 20 students in grades 1, 2 and 3 had to be kept in the same room. 'We used to teach students of grades 4, 5 and 6 in the four-room building whose roof was blown off by the wind. We have moved them to the rooms where students of grades 1, 2 and 3 live. Since there are fewer than 20 students in grades 1 to 3, we have kept them in another room,' he said.
The technical team of the municipality has measured and found that the storm caused damage worth over Rs 300,000.
Principal Giri said that the school is unable to repair the roof due to lack of resources. He said that the budget was requested at the ward office, but since it was the last of the fiscal year, he requested it from the municipality because there was no possibility of receiving it. He said that the students are forced to keep the building in the same room until the building is repaired.
According to him, the risk of collapse of old and dilapidated buildings has increased due to regular rains. He said that all the buildings of the school established in 2044 BS have been repaired many times, but they are dilapidated.
Ward Chairman of Sharda Municipality-14 Prakash Pun said that the school building damaged by the storm could not be repaired immediately because all the budget was exhausted at the end of the fiscal year. He said that the municipality has been requested for repairs.
