Floods in the Sharda River and Khahar Khola, along with two hours of torrential rain, damaged dozens of projects in Bagchaur Municipality-6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and Chhatreshwari Rural Municipality-1 and 2 of Salyan on Saturday afternoon.
The flood in the river damaged more than two dozen roads, more than a dozen drinking water, irrigation canals, and embankments. The Sharda River damaged wheat, vegetables, and oranges in more than 100 ropanis of fields. The flood also swept away a burning corpse, a tractor carrying wheat, and a water tank. Two houses were also damaged in landslides caused by the rain.
The landslides left roads in tatters, washed away culverts, and hosepipes, disrupting traffic on various roads in five wards of Bagchaur Municipality on Sunday as well. The flood has affected the locals by destroying drinking water sources, washing away pipes and damaging tanks.
Bagchaur Municipality-9 Chairman Yatra Bahadur Dangi said that the flood has damaged three dozen new and old roads within the ward, covered the sources of four drinking water schemes, damaged tanks, washed away pipes, washed away the houses of locals and damaged two locals. He informed that the continuous rain for more than two hours has also damaged ginger, potatoes and oranges planted by farmers. According to him, details of the damage caused by the floods in the Sharda River and Khahar Khola along with the rain are being collected. Vehicles have not been able to ply due to the damage to the roads, while more than 300 families from various settlements have been forced to go to sources for drinking water.
Ward 6 Chairman Gyan Bahadur Wali said that 120 families were completely affected after the flood damaged the Himchaur drinking water project worth 5 million rupees, which was completed last year. He said that after the damage to the project, they had to walk for a long time since morning to reach the nearby spring.
Ward 7 Chairman Prem Bahadur DC said that the flood in the river damaged more than a dozen irrigation canals, small and large drinking water projects in 6/7 wards, more than 100 ropanis of farmland were flooded, and hose pipes and culverts placed on the road were washed away. He informed that more than 200 families were affected due to the damage to the drinking water project.
Ward 8 Chairman Gyan Prasad Sharma said that the embankment under construction in Kalakhet and Ward 8 Chairman Sushil Jung Chand said that the springs of four drinking water projects were flooded. Chand informed that discussions are currently underway in the municipality regarding repairs after the flood damaged various projects.
Meanwhile, Ward Chairman of Chhatreshwari Rural Municipality-1, Prakash Hamal, said that the flood washed away the slab slope of the under-construction hiking trail in Faruli Dahakholi Lakhuribot and damaged the Lasune Kaflabang drinking water project. He informed that 250 families in Damachaur Bazaar were affected due to the damage to the drinking water project. According to him, the hailstorm accompanying the rain has further damaged kiwi and oranges.
