The Nepali Army has captured a leopard near a settlement in Ambas, Kalimati Rural Municipality-7, Salyan. An army team deployed in Banke National Park captured it from a forest near the Ambas settlement.

The Nepali Army team deployed in the park set a trap after the locals, who were terrified after the leopard started killing and eating livestock they had taken to graze in the forest and kept at home, demanded that the leopard be captured, said Mitralal Rijal, ward chairman of Kalimati Rural Municipality-7.

He informed that the leopard captured by the Nepali Army team was taken to a safe place and released. ‘The leopard had been killing and eating goats raised by the locals every day and causing panic. It was difficult for the locals to go out of their homes and go to the forest near their homes to mow grass. The locals were insecure. After the army captured the leopard, the locals have been free from fear,’ he said.

He says that the fear of wild animals remains as a tiger killed two people last month near the Ghuiyabari settlement in Kalimati Rural Municipality-7, which is located in the border area of Banke National Park.
