An excavator accident has killed one person in the Laifu Danda area on the border of Kalikot and Bajura under the Karnali Corridor. Naresh Bahadur Shahi, Information Officer of the District Police Office, Bajura, said that 18-year-old Mahesh Rawal of Jagannath-6, Bajura, died on the spot in the accident. According to him, the excavator fell into a cliff while clearing soil on the Laifu-Kolti road section of the Karnali Corridor. After the excavator with Province No. 3-01-003 Ka 6311 fell into a cliff 200 meters below the road, a Nepali Army team led by Lieutenant General Praveen Shrestha from Manma, the district headquarters of Kalikot, reached the spot to retrieve Rawal's body from the cliff. It took 7 hours to retrieve the body from the cliff, according to the police.
The body of the deceased was found 300 meters below the place where the excavator got stuck. DSP Iqbal Hawari of the District Police Office, Bajura, said that it took the Nepali Army and police all day to reach the cliff. The body of the deceased has been taken to Kolti Hospital for postmortem.
The driver, Keshav Bista, who jumped out of the accident and fled, has been taken into custody by the police from Sanni Gad, Kalikot.
