Construction of two buildings of the district hospital and a 15-bed municipal hospital building under construction in Chhatreswari Rural Municipality-5 Lekhpokhara has begun two years after the work was stopped.
The two buildings of the district hospital and a 15-bed hospital building under construction in Chhatreswari Rural Municipality-5 Lekhpokhara were left unfinished after the contractor made various excuses and did not complete the work. The construction company started the construction of the abandoned hospital building after the relevant body sent a letter saying that it would cancel the contract.
After the physical infrastructure to expand the Salyan District Hospital to 50 beds was insufficient, the federal government allocated a budget of Rs 180 million in 2077, and the construction of the two buildings of the district hospital was started in 2078. The responsibility for the construction of the building was given to Arogya Subedi JV Company. The construction company left after completing 75 percent of the work as the deadline could not be extended.
Similarly, the federal government had allocated Rs 180 million for the construction of a 15-bed hospital building in Chhatreswari Rural Municipality in 2077/078. Menka Gyalwa JV was given the responsibility of the work at a cost of Rs 130 million. The construction company initially worked here for five months. Later, citing various excuses due to the Corona pandemic, it left after completing only 15 percent of the work.
The construction of two buildings of the district hospital, which had been stalled for almost two years due to the negligence of the contractor, was extended last Chaitra, said Dr. Arjun Budha Magar, head of the Health Service Office Salyan, where the construction company is currently working. He informed that about 75 percent of the work has been completed and the plan is to complete it within this fiscal year.
He said that when the construction work of the building was left idle for a long time, cement and other materials were wasted and the expansion of the district hospital to 50 beds was neglected.
The contractor started the work on the stalled building after receiving pressure from the provincial and federal governments and writing a letter saying that the contract would be canceled if the work was not started within a week, said Rajaram Rijal, an engineer from Chhatreswari Rural Municipality.
He said that since the work started recently, the pillar installation work is currently underway. ‘Pramod Shrestha, the contractor of the company that was given the responsibility of the construction, had worked for five months after signing the 2079/080 agreement. At that time, he had worked on leveling the land for the construction of the building and digging holes for the pillar installation.
After that, he had been working for one to one and a half months every year in Ashar after repeated requests. Now, with the increase in the price of petroleum products, they are working in full swing, but we are not sure how long they will continue,’ he said. He said that the construction company had to extend the deadline several times when the plan to complete the work in two years was abandoned without implementing it.
Pramod Kumar Shrestha, director of Menka Gyalwa JV, said that the work could not be completed on time due to the Corona pandemic and the increase in the price of materials. He said that the construction work of the building would be completed as soon as possible and handed over to the municipality.
