When a group of four or five people carrying madal, flute and khainjadi reaches a fair-festival or a beautiful gathering, the atmosphere of that place becomes even more lively. The rhythm of the madal and the melody of the flute resonate with the rhythm of the madal, sometimes with jhyaure bhaka, sometimes with the gentle rhythm of banghari and singaru songs. The name given to this group by the audience with love is – ‘Bohra Team’.
Three years ago, some Bohra brothers went to a place where dancing and singing were taking place, played madal, sang songs and someone posted the video on social media. It became a topic of discussion everywhere. And one after another, the number of these brothers dancing and singing started increasing. Tulsiram Bohra, a member of the team, says, ‘And one day someone said, ‘Hey, the Bohra team has arrived.’ And the name of our group, which was mentioned once or twice in the past, was the same ‘Bohra Team’.’ According to Tulsiram, earlier, they would go to places where people were having fun and play their own madal and sing only 1-2 verses of songs. Later, they arranged two madals, a few flutes and a khainjadi. Now, they carry this with them to have fun everywhere.
Along with Tulsiram, the Bohora Team consists of Milan, Ajay and Hemraj Bohora. They say that even though everyone calls them ‘Bohra Team’, others join them as needed when they have fun. Milan says that their dance and singing are not pre-planned and planned, but rather gatherings that happen when everyone has free time. ‘All of us friends have our own work and business.’ When we get free time, we go out to have fun,” he said. “Initially, we used to go out on our own, but now we have started receiving formal invitations. It is not possible to go to all the places we are invited to. However, we try to have fun as much as possible.”
This team is not an officially registered team. It is a way to add more excitement to our free time. Tulsiram clarified that this group does not charge any fee for having fun. “Right now, our aim is only to have fun, we have never charged any fee for this,” he said. “We put money on our heads with love in many places. Apart from that, we have not taken anything from anywhere.”
Tulsiram said that many of his friends are abroad and are expressing happiness after seeing/listening to their fun dances and songs. ‘Friends also say that they will provide such and such assistance.’ However, we have not received such assistance from anyone so far,’ he said, ‘We have no plans to receive such assistance in the future.’ The performance of the ‘Bohra Team’ has added a wonderful charm to various gatherings held on festivals, fairs, pujas and special days.
