With the ease of road transportation, the number of domestic tourists has increased in Kupinde Lake, the district's major tourist destination and known as 'Mini Rara'. With the road leading to the lake being blacktopped, the number of tourists has increased here. The number of people coming to view the lake and go boating has increased even more on the occasion of the New Year.

On Tuesday, the first day of the New Year, 2,000 people came to view the lake in Kupinde Municipality-8. Before that and in the two days after that, 150 to 200 tourists are coming daily. Domestic tourists enjoy boating in addition to viewing the lake.

As the activity in Kupinde Lake has increased from morning to evening, the business of the locals has also increased. The lake area is now filled with retail shops, and the number of people selling locally produced fruits has also increased.

There are not enough facilities for those who come to see the lake to stay and eat. Locals said that there are no suitable rest houses and waiting rooms for those who come to visit to rest for a while. The number of tourists has increased after the road was blacktopped and it is easy to travel by car. People come here to observe the natural beauty, take a boat ride on the lake and visit the Baraha temple located near the temple. Ward Chairman Kul Bahadur Puri said that there is a religious belief that worshipping at the Baraha temple here will help one get children.

Local Sukdev Acharya, who runs a hotel near Kupinde Lake, said that his business has started flourishing after the number of people who come to see the lake and temple and worship has increased and provided employment to locals. He informed that he is earning up to Rs 4,000 daily after cutting other expenses due to the increase in tourists. 'Domestic tourists come not only to enjoy themselves but also to take videos, photos from their mobile phones and post them on TikTok and YouTube.' "There are many young people in the area," he said. "It seems that few people come to study the lake and the temple." He said that even though the local level has been collecting fees from tourists, vehicles and picnickers who come to view the lake, the waste around the lake is increasing due to neglect in management.

Tule Gosai, a priest of the Barah Temple located in the Kupinde Lake area, said that people come from Surkhet, Nepalgunj, Dang, Jajarkot, and Rukum to view the lake and worship at the temple. According to him, the most tourists come from Surkhet because it is close. "The Division Forest Office Salyan has now implemented a tourism and promotion program including lake conservation under the tourism development program. This seems to increase the number of tourists," he said. Kupinde Lake is 1,200 meters long, 250 meters wide, 51 meters deep, and 2,800 meters in circumference.
