Amid concerns over the loss of traditional art and culture, a Bhaka competition has been organized in Thulibheri Municipality-5, Majhfal. The program was organized with the aim of preserving and passing on endangered cultural heritage such as Lahare Nach, Khyali and Thadi Bhaka.

The program was organized with colorful banners, musical instruments and decorations on the premises of Vidyamandir Secondary School in Majhfal. The banner placed at the program venue had the message 'Old Bhaka is our identity' inscribed on it.

The sight of artists dressed in local costumes performing Bhaka with microphones and mallets made the cultural atmosphere more lively. Colorful balloons and musical symbols seemed to reflect the enthusiasm for the program.

Program organizer Bimal Rokaya said that the risk of such Bhakas disappearing has increased as interest in original culture has decreased in the recent generation. 'Since the dialects associated with our identity are at risk of disappearing, we have organized a competition for their preservation, even though it is a personal initiative,' he said. 'We believe that this will increase interest in the new generation.'

Mayor Suvarna Budha said that such programs would be effective in preserving local art and culture that have been in vogue for ages. 'Everyone should take responsibility to preserve our identity,' he said. 'Along with publicity, active participation of the youth is essential.'

Chief District Officer Junu Hamal Dhakal participated in the program as a special guest. Expressing happiness over the organization of culturally important programs, she said that such activities would help in preserving local identity. She also believed that organizing such programs at the district level would provide further publicity and help in establishing identity widely.

Local artists from Wards No. 5 and 6 presented old folk dialects, dances and cultural performances in the competition. Organizer Bimal Rokaya is also an international taekwondo player. His initiative to preserve local identity by being active in sports as well as in the cultural sector has been viewed positively. According to the organizers, the competition is expected to not only revive local art and culture but also spread awareness about its importance among the new generation.
