Preparations are in full swing to generate electricity from solar energy to provide light to the district. Work is underway on the Karnali Solar Energy Project to generate about one megawatt of electricity from solar energy in Khalanga here. The project is being carried out near the Karnali Technical Education Center.

After the project is completed, light will illuminate the homes of 9,000 customers in the district. Khalanga has become darkness-free after the national transmission line was connected some time ago. However, locals are suffering due to the lack of reliable electricity. Locals have expressed confidence that the darkness will be eliminated in the long term with the start of the project.

Local Man Bahadur Rokaya said that most of the district will be able to use electricity as soon as the solar energy connection work is completed. ‘It is not normal to connect one megawatt of solar energy,’ he said, ‘The district will produce the electricity it needs. Consumption will also be the same.’ This project is being built with a total investment of 2 billion. The

project will generate 950 kilowatts of electricity. Support will be provided to small and medium-sized industries in Khalanga. The Electricity Authority Distribution Branch has stated that solar energy will be delivered to households within the next five months. The electricity on the national transmission line is intermittent. The electricity from the Chukeni Hydropower Project is not sufficient. The district will be in a state of flux after the completion of the solar energy work. The

project has also started work in Humla, Mugu, Jumla and Dolpa in Karnali. The national transmission line reached the district for the first time in 2078 BS. According to project manager Abhishek Adhikari, work is being done under the supervision of the Authority Jumla Distribution Center. Distribution Center Chief Lalit Kumar Mandal said that 50 percent of the solar energy work has been completed. ‘Currently, civil construction work is in full swing,’ he said, ‘The foundation for the transformer connection and the installation of solar panels are underway.’

He said that the charger control of the panel and the machine to control the power coming from the solar are yet to arrive. 1,772 solar panels will be installed for solar energy production. 300 batteries will be installed for power control. Currently, the foundation and retaining wall of the solar panels are being constructed. 16 people have been deployed for the construction of the project.
