Wild animal attacks have increased in the last three to four months. The general public is afraid to move around. Locals said that human casualties and animal losses have increased.
In the second week of December, a tiger that entered the settlement from Banke National Park killed Dhansara Rawat of Parseni of Kalimati-7, on the border of Salyan and Surkhet, and Chandra Bahadur Khaptadi of Hattidhunga of Kalimati-6. It killed a dozen cows and goats tied up in a shed. The army deployed in the park searched for the tiger but could not find it. The tiger killed 13 goats taken to graze in the forest of Sagar Reule of Satighare of Kalimati-3. Tigers are terrorizing some wards of Kalimati Municipality and leopards are terrorizing some wards of Sharda Municipality, Bangad Kupinde Municipality, Chhatreshwari, Kapurkot, and Triveni Rural Municipality.
Locals near the forest are terrified after they started killing and eating goats tied in the shed. They have lost their income by selling goats and goats. They have stopped going to the forest to cut grass. If someone falls ill at night in Kalimati-5, 6, and 7, it is difficult to take them to the hospital. A farmer from Kalimati has been raising 15 to 30 goats. ‘We stopped raising goats after they started killing goats every day,’ he said. ‘We have reached out to the relevant bodies and requested them to take control of the tigers that are killing people and livestock, and we have been protesting, but to no avail. No one has listened to us.’
