A corruption case has been registered in a special court against Narendra Bahadur Mahat, the principal of Ganesh Secondary School in Ranka, Tatopani Rural Municipality-1, Jumla. They are accused of not distributing scholarship money for five years and embezzling midday meal money.

The Central Office of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority filed a chargesheet in the special court on Monday against School Management Committee Chairman Til Prasad Bhattarai and the accounting assistant.

The chargesheet mentions embezzlement of Rs 145,350 in student scholarship money received by the school in the fiscal year 2079/80. It is seen that on Chaitra 21, 2080, Principal Mahat distributed scholarship money to 83 students from grades 1 to 5 at the rate of Rs 1,000 and to 44 students from grades 6 to 8 at the rate of Rs 1,485.23, a total of Rs 148,350, which was sent to Tatopani Rural Municipality.

The Commission has stated that the scholarship amount received by the school has not been distributed to the concerned girls and it has been confirmed that the defendants conspired with each other to make a false statement on 21 Asoj 2080 and forged another false statement that the scholarship was distributed on 21 Chaitra 2080.

The Commission's spokesperson Suresh Neupane issued a press release and demanded that they be sentenced to imprisonment and a fine of 145,350 rupees for the offense under Sub-section (1) of Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059 BS.
