Parents say that the location of the center far from the school has increased the inconvenience of accommodation, food, and even the risk of misbehavior for students.

Students and parents have complained that the change in the 'home center' has hurt them, saying it will make the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) dignified. Students and parents have complained that they are facing financial and mental problems after the exam center was assigned to distant schools instead of the schools near their homes. Nawaraj Bishwakarma, a parent of Khadachakra-3, said that the change in the exam center in the name of improving learning, when the emphasis should be on year-round education, has hurt students.
Bishwakarma, a parent of Janajivan Mavi Tadi, said that due to the change in the 'home center', students participating in the SEE are having trouble finding rooms in the slums near the center. 'The government authorities do not pay attention to year-round education. It is inconvenient for us to send students to other places during the exam, carrying food items,' he said. 'There is also a risk of mistreatment of girls if they go far away from their place of residence and the school they studied.'
Five years ago, a student from Janajyoti Secondary School Pakha here was raped by a youth from Daha. The youth accused of rape is currently in jail. Three years ago, a youth from Shubha Kalika who sexually abused another student from Chandrasurya Secondary School to Mahadev Secondary School Rarakatiya to appear for an exam has apologized and resolved the matter, said human rights activist Jeevan Sunar. He said that the practice of taking students away during exams and causing stress should be stopped.
The examination center for students in the technical stream has been set at Panchadev Secondary School at the headquarters. Students from Deuli Secondary School Ukhadi and Saraswati Secondary School Raduneta Dhaulagoh in Palata-6, the furthest from Kalikot, Himalaya Secondary School Dandakhala and Kalika Secondary School Gela in Mahabai, Motiram Secondary School Sipkhana and Janajagruti Secondary School Phukot in Raskot, Panchadeval Secondary School Mehelmudi and Shankar Secondary School Serijula in Sannitriveni, Panch Kalika Secondary School Banjkot in Pachaljharana, Nandadevi Secondary School Malkot in Narharinath and Bijoshi Secondary School Chowki in Khadachak will have to come to Manam to take the exam.
Due to the change of home center, 76 secondary school students here will take the SEE from 20 exam centers across the district. Psychologist Apeksha Singh Basnet said that even if the exam center is in the same school, assigning a center elsewhere for the concerned school puts children at risk and inconvenience. ‘During the examination, girls are more at risk of protection than boys,’ she said, ‘There is inconvenience in accommodation and food, and there is also the risk of violence and mistreatment.’
Harsh Prasad Chaulagain, Head of the Education Development and Coordination Unit, said that the home center was changed as a continuation of the past as there was a rush of parents to steal cheats during the SEE. He said that the change of home center was done as per the instructions of the National Examination Board. He said that the center was assigned as per the standards of the examination board to prevent unruly activities in the examination, to accurately measure the actual learning achievement of the students, and to develop a reading culture in the students.
According to him, the center is assigned by the District Examination Coordination Committee meeting chaired by the Chief District Officer. He said that due to the geography of Kalikot, some schools have difficulty and efforts have been made to arrange the students in the most suitable place. Chaulagain, Member Secretary of the Examination Coordination Committee, said that the center was assigned after looking at the physical infrastructure, availability of furniture, surroundings, drinking water, and toilet facilities.
All 76 secondary schools here have bid farewell to the students who will participate in this year's SEE, which will be conducted from next Thursday. This year, 3,710 students, including 2,967 regular students, 679 grade-improvement students, and 71 technical students, will appear in the SEE from 20 examination centers in Kalikot.
