In the last eight months of the current fiscal year, 861 tuberculosis patients have been detected in Karnali Province. According to the Health Services Directorate, Surkhet, this number was identified as new patients in 10 districts of the province during this period.

Tuberculosis and Leprosy Officer of the Directorate, Padam Bahadur KC, said that the number of new infections has not stopped. According to him, in the fiscal year 2080/81, there were 1,714 tuberculosis patients, which decreased to 1,539 in 2081/82.

In the current fiscal year 2082/83, the highest number of patients were found in Surkhet with 296. The lowest number was found in Humla with 19. Among other districts, 104 new patients were found in Salyan, 101 in Jajarkot, 92 in Rukum West, 83 in Dailekh, 46 in Kalikot, 45 in Jumla, 21 in Dolpa and 19 in Mugu. The Directorate estimates that the number of infected people may be even higher due to the low testing rate in Humla, Dolpa and Mugu.

Currently, 415 tuberculosis treatment centers, two MDR treatment centers and 10 gene specialist centers are operating in the province. However, a gene specialist center has not been established in Dolpa. Microscopy service is available at 33 locations. The program organized by the Health Services Directorate and coordinated by the Municipal Hospital Birendranagar was attended by Director Dr. Rabin Khadka and others. Awareness and fruits were distributed to patients at the program.
