In the meeting held in the Karnali Provincial Assembly on Friday, the Provincial Assembly passed a resolution proposal regarding regular air services to hilly and remote districts.
The resolution proposal submitted by Provincial Assembly member Hikmat Bahadur Bista was unanimously passed in the Provincial Assembly. Provincial Assembly members Dakshina Shahi and Tekraj Pachai were in favor of the proposal. Provincial Assembly member Urmila BK supported the proposal. Responding to the issues raised in the Provincial Assembly, Minister for Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment Suresh Adhikari said that a budget of Rs 4 million has been allocated for air services. He informed that the ministry is in the process of drafting a working procedure to implement this amount.
The Provincial Assembly members have said that discussions will be held with the federal government after the resolution proposal regarding regular air flights from Surkhet, the capital of Karnali Province, to hilly and remote districts of the province is unanimously passed. As there are no flights from Surkhet, the capital of Karnali, to remote and mountainous districts, passengers have been taking air services from Nepalgunj in Lumbini Province.
