The Nepali Army has been given the responsibility of constructing the Lasikyap-Sisaul road section of the Bheri Corridor, which has been incomplete for years. The government has decided to give the responsibility of opening the track of about 35 kilometers of the road, which is located on extremely steep and rocky terrain, to the Nepali Army.

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Madhav Chaulagain said that it was decided to give the responsibility of constructing the Lasikyap-Sisaul road, an important section of the Bheri Corridor, to the army in a cabinet meeting held on Chaitra 1.

He said that the responsibility was given to the army after it was difficult to open the track as per the road standards due to the remote geography and difficult geographical conditions. He also said that the government will now manage the budget soon and the army will proceed with the construction process.

If the construction of this section is completed and the Bheri Corridor is completed, it will have a positive impact on the development and promotion of mountain tourism in Karnali Province, said newly elected MP from Dolpa Dhan Bahadur Budha.

The Bheri Corridor is a strategic road project that starts from Jamuna in Banke and passes through Surkhet, Salyan, Jajarkot and Rukum west, crosses Dunai, Dho and Tinje in Dolpa and reaches the border of Tibet, the autonomous region of China.

This road, which has the potential to connect Nepal, India and China, is considered important from an economic, commercial and diplomatic point of view. According to the Bheri Corridor Project Office, Jajarkot, there is about 317 kilometers of road from Chhinchu in Surkhet to Morimla in Dolpa. Of this, about 107 kilometers of the road from Chhinchu to Jajarkot has been blacktopped.

Similarly, about 56 kilometers of the road from Khalanga Bazaar in Jajarkot to Talnubagar via Rimna has already been blacktopped. The 61-kilometer section of the Bheri Corridor, whose track was opened in 2075 BS, is in the process of being upgraded.

The Bheri Corridor Office, Jajarkot, has informed that work has already started despite the award of two contracts worth Rs 100 crore for the construction of the 25-kilometer road from Dunai to Lasikap. The contract was awarded three years ago for the construction of the 25-kilometer road from Dunai to Lasikap, but the work has not been completed.

If the road construction is completed, it is expected that the arrival of domestic and foreign tourists to the famous tourist destinations of Dolpa, such as Phoksundo Lake, Jagdulla Lake, Suligad Waterfall, Charka Bhot Basti and Tripurasundari Bhagwati Temple, will increase. The 40-kilometer track from Morimla to Sisaul has already been opened.
