There has been a demand to expand the Himalayan district of Dolpa as an apple superzone. A meeting held on Thursday under the chairmanship of District Coordination Committee Chief Shyam Bahadur Rokaya decided to demand the Provincial Project Implementation Coordination and Monitoring Committee to expand Dolpa as an apple superzone. The meeting decided to demand the union and provinces to implement it as an apple superzone, saying that the National Agricultural Modernization Program, Implementation Unit Dolpa, has done a quality job by constructing apple zones and bean zones in the district. The meeting reviewed and discussed the progress of bean zones and apple zones operating in various places in the district so far. Along with this, it has been demanded to increase the production of the district and emphasize on marketing. The meeting decided to upgrade the apple zone and demand an apple superzone, a new zone for goats, changgra, and a new zone for indigenous crops, informed Govinda Bahadur Malla, Acting Office Chief of the Prime Minister's Agricultural Modernization Project Program Implementation Unit Dolpa.
In addition, Malla said that it has been decided to conduct additional programs for marketing, diversification and storage of apples and beans produced in Dolpa by studying the climate and soil of Dolpa and emphasizing the production of fruits and crops that are suitable for the climate and soil, and to recommend the ongoing projects for continuity.
The National Agriculture Modernization Program, which was started in 2076/077 under the name of the Prime Minister's Agricultural Modernization Project, has so far invested about Rs 188.1 million in Dolpa.

Since its establishment, the office has constructed 212 small irrigation systems, irrigated an area of 125 hectares, established 19 nurseries, distributed 92 different types of machinery, constructed 14 fences, provided seasonal employment to 2,073 people and full-time employment to 41 people through business, and provided training to 443 farmers.
The program chairperson Rokaya said that initiatives will be taken by the relevant bodies to convert the apple and bean zones operating in the district into super zones.
