Vote counting postponed after controversy in Rukum West

The counting process has been suspended in Rukum West after a dispute arose during the counting of votes. The dispute arose after 164 more votes were found than the actual votes cast in Ward No. 1, 3 and 5 of Chaurjahari Municipality.

Assistant Election Officer Mandira Shahi said that there was a problem in this regard and discussions are underway to resolve it. In Rukum West, with 20,741 votes counted so far, Nepali Communist Party (NCP) candidate Gopal Sharma is leading.

So far, Gopal has garnered 7,272 votes, while Janardan Sharma of the Progressive Democratic Party (Pralopa) is trailing him by 5,160 votes. Out of the total six municipalities in the district, the counting of votes in Athabishkot Municipality and Banfikot Rural Municipality was completed and the counting of votes in Chaurjahari Municipality began at 6 am.
