In the vote counting that began in Kalikot, Mahendra Bahadur Shahi of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has taken an initial lead.  

When the votes were counted for Palata Wards No. 1, 2, 3 and 7, Shahi, the former Chief Minister of Karnali Province, took the initial lead by getting 833 votes. 

He is followed by Nagindra Shahi of UML with 537 votes. 

Similarly, Harsh Bahadur Bam of the Nepali Congress is in third place with 452 votes. 

Khadga Bahadur Bishwokarma of the CPN (Maoist) got 142 votes and Prakash Neupane of the National Independent Party got 84 votes.
