Two children have died after drowning in a pit dug to build a house in Surkhet.
The deceased are Khemraj Katuwal, 7, son of Tek Bahadur Katuwal, and his 5-year-old daughter Dipika Katuwal, a resident of Birendranagar Municipality-9, Chilkhaya, Tilagufa Municipality-9, Kalikot.
They died after falling into a pit dug to build a house near their house, said DSP Mohanjung Budthapa, spokesperson of the District Police Office, Surkhet.
They were seen drowning by locals on Monday evening. Police, who arrived after receiving information from locals, rescued them and took them to the Provincial Hospital, Kalagaun.
The doctors involved in the treatment declared both of them dead, according to the police.
