A preparatory meeting for the upcoming election on Falgun 21 has been held at the Mahadev Basic School polling station in Manma. The all-party meeting chaired by polling officer Ramdutt Devkota has decided to discourage voting in a ward to respect the rights of voters.
It has been decided to allow people with disabilities to vote in a ward only if they are unable to do so after seeing their disability identity card. Polling officer Devkota said that a unanimous decision was taken after taking suggestions from the all-party meeting to control fake voting as per the circular issued by the Election Commission.
Representatives of the Congress, UML, CPN, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), CPN-Maoist, RPP and other parties participated in the meeting. Stating that the meeting will help in conducting the voting in an orderly and peaceful manner, Congress representative Prem Bahadur Shahi said that it was decided to end the practice of voters who could vote themselves in previous elections having someone else vote in their ward.
Similarly, all-party meetings were held at all polling stations in the district on Tuesday, informed Sunil Khad, Information Officer of the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer. According to him, preparations are underway to complete the construction of polling stations by Wednesday after the election team has reached all 128 polling stations in the district and has held all-party meetings.
Chief District Officer Gokarna Raj Suyal said that 1,298 people, including 298 women, and 2,000 security personnel from Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nopali Army have been mobilized to protect the polling stations. According to him, six ambulances have been kept ready in the main market center of the district in case of illness or injury in any incident on the election day. Meanwhile, District Election Officer Bishwa Mangal Sharma said that a mock voting exercise was held in Manma on Wednesday for election police and voter education monitors. He said that information was provided about voter safety, confidentiality of voting places, ballot box security, ballot paper delivery places and voting methods during the mock voting.
Although vehicles will be available to the 7 local level centers of Kalikot, preparations are being made to transport election materials to places where vehicles do not have direct access in Mahabai and Palata. The District Security Committee has formulated the necessary security strategy to transport ballot boxes from all polling centers to Manma by the night of the election, District Police Chief Him Bahadur KC said.
