The construction work of the Ramri-Harneti and Kharkhola-Samdimod roads on the Dang-Salyan road section under the Rapti Highway has gained momentum.

After the work could not be completed in the initial phase, pressure from all sides increased and the construction work accelerated after the concerned bodies urged .

The road, which was becoming dilapidated after all the blacktops made in the past, became dusty in winter and always suffered from landslides during the rainy season . Due to this, the risk of accidents increased, and the federal government allocated 600 million last year to upgrade and blacktop about 11 kilometers of the road from Ramri-Harneti and Kharekhola-Samdimod . According to the contract signed by the Road Division Office, Dang, PK Construction Services was given the responsibility to complete the work in two years for 400 million .

The construction company has now completed 20 percent more of the wall construction and drainage work in addition to almost completing the hill cutting work .

More than 300 large vehicles ply on that road section under the Rapti Highway daily . Passengers have been inconvenienced by the construction materials and dust piled up on the road due to the disregard for passenger safety. Engineer Ashok Chaudhary, Information Officer of the Road Division Office, Dang, said that although the PK Construction Service was a little slow in the initial phase, the construction work has been carried out at a rapid pace in recent times. He informed that the construction company has completed more than 20 percent of the work in the project that started last Jestha. According to him, the construction company has completed 90 percent of the hill cutting work to widen the road and 80 percent of the work on the drains and walls.

‘As the traffic volume on the Rapti Highway increased significantly, the construction company initially found it difficult to carry out the construction work. Later, after obtaining permission from the concerned body, the construction work has accelerated after the vehicle operation was banned for 5 to 6 hours a day for a month,’ he said.

He said that there was difficulty in managing the fallen rocks and soil while cutting the hill and the construction materials piled up on the road have caused some inconvenience to passengers and vehicle operators, which has increased the risk of accidents. He said that considering the current pace of work, the construction company will complete the work within the time specified.

Dipendra Budha, a motorcycle rider going from Salyan to Tulsipur, said that the construction company is working more vigorously from Ramri to Harneti than on Kharkhola-Samdimod. He said that if the construction company manages water supply and construction materials including rocks and soil on the road, there will be no problem in commuting.

Since the construction materials are piled up on the road, it takes two hours to reach Tulsipur from Salyan by motorcycle and two and a half hours by jeep, but if the Kharkhola-Samdimod and Ramri-Harneti roads are blacktopped, it will be possible to reach in one and a half hours, said Madan Basnet of Sharada Municipality-8. He has urged the construction company to show interest in managing the stones and soil that have fallen around the construction site.

Construction company contractor Prakash Rasaili has said that he has deployed as many equipment and workers as possible to complete the Rapti Highway work as quickly as possible. He informed that he has been managing the stones that have fallen from above during the construction work. According to the agreement, the work is to be completed in 2084 Jestha, but contractor Rasaili says that the work will be completed on time.
