Security agencies monitor sensitive polling stations

What you should know

On-site monitoring has been conducted at 'highly sensitive' polling stations located in remote areas of the district.

Direct monitoring of 22 polling stations including Palata, Pachaljharana, Sannitriveni, Shubhakalika, Mahabai, Narharinath Rural Municipality and Raskot, Khadachakra and Tilagufa Municipality has been carried out. The District Election Office has stated that the work of understanding the indirect geography and condition of 73 other polling stations has been done.

Chief District Officer Gorkan Raj Suyal said that the district team has reached all the highly sensitive polling stations in the district and some others, including 95. ‘We have reached most of them on the spot.’ Work has also been done to understand the situation of other sensitive polling stations from a close distance,’ he said. He said that the availability of roads, footpaths, drinking water and electricity leading to the polling stations has been observed and information has also been obtained about the security challenges.

A team led by Kalikot Chief Election Officer and District Magistrate Kul Prasad Dahal, including Pradya Suyal, District Election Officer Bishwamangal Sharma, Devibox Gulmapati Santosh Dahal, District Police Chief Him Bahadur Khatri, Armed Police Chief Deepak Chand, District Election Monitoring Officer Tanka Bahadur Thapa, and others monitored the highly sensitive and sensitive polling stations, said Information Officer Dhan Bahadur Malla of the District Election Office.

There is transport facility to the 7 local level centers of Kalikot, but there is no direct vehicle access to Mahabai and Palata. For Palata, a plan has been made to take a vehicle to Raduneta in Dhaulagoh via Bajura to bring the ballot boxes to Thirpu and then carry them from the Thirpu bridge and bring the manna in the vehicle from Ghatpari Chaur.

Similarly, Assistant District Officer Janak Sharma said that there is a plan to bring ballot boxes to the headquarters from all polling stations in Mahabaika Odanku and Gela, another local level where vehicles are not available, by dropping them on the Karnali Highway. According to him, this time, since helicopters can only arrive in case of snowfall, the ballot boxes will be brought to the headquarters by land in other cases.

Out of the total 104 polling stations in Kalikot, 74 have been classified as highly sensitive, 28 sensitive and 2 normal in terms of security. 14 polling stations have been placed on the list of highly sensitive in terms of snowfall.
