The HPV vaccine is being given to 21,000 girls in Karnali Province to protect them from cervical cancer.
The vaccination is being given to more than 21,000 girls under the age of 14 in all 10 districts of Karnali from Magh 25.
20,484 school-going girls and 916 non-school-going girls in Karnali will be vaccinated. According to the Health Services Directorate, the campaign will start from Magh 25 and will be conducted until Baisakh.
The campaign, which will initially start from Dailekh and Jajarkot, will be conducted in Salyan and Rukum on 27.
Surkhet will start on Falgun 1, Kalikot and Mugu on 4. Similarly, Jumla and Humla will start in the last week of Falgun, while Dolpa will start from the first week of Baisakh, said Director Dr. Rabin Khadka.
The number of girls to be vaccinated is 5,348 in Surkhet, 3,432 in Dailekh, 1,813 in Kalikot, 2,321 in Salyan, and 2,611 in Jajarkot. Similarly, 1,850 people in Rukum West, 1,341 in Jumla, 1,415 in Humla, 715 in Mugu, and 502 in Dolpa will be vaccinated against HPV.
Health Director Khadka said that last year's vaccination coverage was 90 percent. The goal is to eliminate cervical cancer by 2030. "This vaccine has been shown to be very effective," he said. "About five percent missed the vaccination. This year, all children will be able to get it."
