UML Jumla has included commitments ranging from road, agriculture, tourism, hospital construction to generating 20 megawatts of electricity in its manifesto for the upcoming House of Representatives elections on February 21.

UML Jumla made public the pledge to take to the doorsteps of voters on Thursday.

The pledge covers issues such as blacktopping all eight local level rural roads connected to the main highway, making the Karnali Highway two-lane, constructing Patarasi, Dolpo, Nakchelagna roads in Jumla, and completing the construction of the road connecting Jumla, Dolpa, Manang, and Mustang.

‘We have given high priority to issues such as agricultural product marketing, one municipality, one collection center,’ said UML candidate Shantilal Mahat, ‘We have entered the election with the promise of building a satellite hospital in Sinja.’

He pledged to take the initiative to generate 20 megawatts of electricity with the water flowing from the Gididaha area in Tatopani-4 with the slogan ‘Jumla’s water, state investment.’ ‘I will not go to the doorsteps of voters with very big and ambitious plans.’ I have prioritized only plans that can be supported by local resources,' Mahat said, 'I have promised to start good work in the development, prosperity and health education of Jumla and in the employment sector.'

Mahat said that he has become a candidate to stand as a representative of the people of Jumla against increasing corruption and misrule. The pledge also includes developing a digital health mobile app, expanding telemedicine services, establishing Ayurveda, rural medicine and yoga education centers along with local herbal research, production and promotion.

The UML pledge includes converting Karnali Technical College into an agricultural and environmental university, creating a special industrial economic zone in Sinja, improving the processing, branding, marketing and value chain of local products, establishing a forestry, agriculture and herbal research, processing and promotion center, and making one municipality one moisture center.
