Three Dolpa candidates have one assurance: completion of the Bheri Corridor

What you should know

The Bheri Corridor, known as a highway connecting the Himalayan district of Dolpa not only to the national road network but also to the north-south, has become a common election agenda for Dolpa candidates.

The Nepali Communist Party, UML and Congress candidates have made the corridor connecting China, Nepal and India from the Morimla checkpoint in Upper Dolpa a key election agenda.

In November 2018, the Nepali Army opened a track from Pasaguard in Jajarkot to Dunai and handed it over to the Road Department. The completion of the Bheri Corridor, which was handed over to the Road Department by the Nepali Army, has become the main election promise of the Dolpali candidate this time.

NCP candidate Dhan Bahadur Budha said that after being elected, he would work to complete the construction of the Bheri Corridor, which is the lifeline of the Dolpali people. ‘Even before this, I have repeatedly raised my voice in Parliament and ensured a budget of Rs 4.2 billion for the upgrading of the section from Talnubagar to Dunai under the Bheri Corridor, and the construction work has already started. Now, as the work of opening the road track from Dunai to Sisaul remains, I will work day and night on this work,’ he said.

Along with this, he said that he will also take initiatives for the construction of the 328 megawatt Bharabung Tatukhola Hydroelectric Project, which has just been surveyed. Candidate Budha has been elected as an MP from Dolpa for three consecutive terms and is now in the fray for the fourth time.

UML candidate Lanka Bahadur Rokaya also said that he will work on the issue of completing the Bheri Corridor. 'As soon as I am elected, I will raise the voice of the construction of the first Bheri Corridor in Parliament. I will work as a servant, not a ruler of the people. I will work in a way that all the people can experience in Dolpa, which is divided into three parts,' he said. He said that he will also take initiatives for youth-targeted programs and strengthening the border security between Nepal and China in Upper Dolpa.

Congress candidate Karna Bahadur Budha also said that he will work by giving priority to the construction of roads, which are the main infrastructure for development. ‘After I am elected, I will work towards completing the construction of the Bheri Corridor that will go forward through Kaike Rural Municipality. Currently, there is no road from Dunai to Kaike. My party and I will work to open and upgrade the road from Dunai to Sisaul,’ he said. He said that Dolpa has not been able to make a leap in development in the past due to the lack of good leadership in the district, so now he and his party will work for development, good governance and prosperity in Dolpa.

The Congress candidate who lost the Constituent Assembly election in 2064 BS is also the central joint general secretary of the party.
